Capital Punishment

Throughout this text I am going to discuss my opinions about Capital Punishment.

Capital punishment is a highly discussed topic around the world. There are 33 states in the United States that have Capital Punishment. We execute different criminal, for example murderess, rapist, terrorists, cult leaders. By killing these criminals we show the world that it is wrong to kill. Over 4,662 have been executed in the United States (Wikipedia, last modified 7. of February). I believe that it is right to implement Capital punishment in every nation, but it is up to the Human Right Council in Haag to determine if the criminals should be put on death row. I believe we should use capital punishment in rare situations, but the way we execute the criminals should done in a humane way. We shall rather use lethal injections than gas chambers and the electric chair. There are a lot of emotions while going through this process.

It is difficult for me to discuss if capital punishment is right or wrong, when this tragedy have not occurred in my family. But for the families that have lost one of the peoples they hold dearest, it must be difficult to live knowing that the murderer is still alive. The movie Dead Man Walking illustrates how the offended need to cope with that the man who killed their children is still alive. It is hard to accept that people like Anders Bering Breivik and Charles Manson is still alive.

When Anders Bering Breivik killed 77 people, most of them children, the whole nation suffered. I believe that majority of the offended in this case wanted to see Anders Behring Breivik dead. But we cannot execute unaccountable people. Instead of being executed they should stay in prison for the rest of their life until he/she is sane again and function well in a society.

If this had happened, Anders would most likely be shot at the crime scene. The Norwegian prisons are to help the criminals instead in the United States prison exists to punish them.

If the criminals are sane and their criminal act is so appealing there is no reason to keep them alive. They should be executed but in a humane way.

Gone home

Gone Home is a master class on how to tell a personal, affecting story in a video game. The game is mysterious, and requiring to care about its character personal life. The game starts oddly, but when you find the metaphorical puzzle pieces and when it’s completed you resemble something familiar. The game succeeds on all levels. They achieve to give the player a melancholic feeling that never stops. The game is put remarkable together. The design work on the household and even though the background music is a totally cliché it works well together.

Gone home stars Katie Greenbriar, a young woman visiting her family after 1 year abroad. Upon arriving at the new mansion, on a dark stormy night, of course, she finds it deserted. Through out the game, it’s your job collect all the clues and find out what is happening.

As you walk through the mansion, you notice the use of music. The music posters and records the placed around the house, gives the players a mouthful of nostalgia. This create an affecting ambiance

As you wander further into the Greenbriar residence, you’ll come upon telephone messages, pictures, notes and a diary that provide you with the clue necessary to start illuminating the families dark sides. The lyrics and voices are some of the best i have experienced since I started playing video games. It’s not stylish or exaggerating, but rather painfully real. Unraveling the story of your sister life, the dysfunctional relationship between your parents and the reason why she left her home for living abroad makes Gone Home a powerful storytelling.

The writing and the artifact design is so good that you want to grab everything that isn’t bolted to the floor and give the artifacts a closer examination. Turning around a bowl of soup reveals a fully written label and entering closets only to find bordgames and old cloths contribute to make the Greenbriar household a real home.

Verdict

Stepping foot inside the of Greenbriar household and discovering the items they left behind is a influential experience. Gone home is a simple but brilliant achievement and piecing together this emotional story is something that I will remember for a long time.

My Expectations

Civilization IV

We have played civilization IV for almost a month now and I am very disappointed. I thought that I would learn a lot form playing this game and writing blog post, but all I have learn is to wright a blog. The project started out very exciting, but it quickly turned out to be quite dull.

In the first lesson it was fun played a games in school, but since I felt that I didn’t learn anything from this project. I think that the game was made to advance; even moving your troops is difficult, they could have made this game so much simpler. My expectations were high towards playing this game, but it didn’t live up to them.

It can be challenging to rule a country as a dictator, president or as prime Minister especially when you are suppose to create an empire. To expand and create an empire need to declare war on different nations. It might happen that we get in conflicts with other nations that can result in war. If we are attacked by another nation, we will try to break the opposition down. This is all included in the game Civilization IV were playing.

There are a lot of ways that leads to war, but every war start with a conflict. A conflict kan consist of a lot of things, but in most cases conflict is about theology, ideology and ethnic reasons. There is a lot of conflicts happening in the game (civilization IV) and on the planet where living on. Different conflict that might lead to a war is the relationship between Palistin and Israel, the conflict between North Korea and the rest of the world and also the conflict between the state IS and the rest of the world and the most terrifying the conflict between Russia and The United States of America. If these conflicts leads to ware the consequences can be horrific, they can start a world war 3. There is a lot of empires that is known for they horrific and brilliant strategic, for example the Nazis, the Mongolian Empire and the Roman Empire. These empires are well known for their barbaric warfare and for their carnage of the enemies population.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine started in 1947, when the UN divided Palestine in half. 45% went to the Palestine people and 55% went to the Israeli people. Israel received enormous amount of money from the United States, making Israel the world fifth larges military force. This has resulted that the Israeli people has terrorized the Palestine people, and driven them out of their home. Both of the nations claims to have deep roots in Jerusalem. This is a conflict that you meet in the game. The game is based on real life conflicts and war, only that you can control if you want to go trough with it. There is also the opposite of war, and that is peace.

The opposite to war is peace, and most of the nation in the world has a strong relationship with each other. For example in EU (European Union) the nations is a apart of the sheng agreement. This agreement involves that the nations can travel around in the different nations without carrying a passport, and there is non-taxes, for example on textile, and different sort of technologic devices. This agreement helps the smaller nations to expand their production and helping them on their way to become a world industry. In the game and the real world businesses takes advantage on that the nations lack technology and the knowledge to produce the recourses they have. This is also something that you as a large nation that has a vast knowledge can take advantage from.

Strong allies and friendship is the key du succeed in the game and the real life.

Civilization IV is a Sensation

I haven’t played videogames in a few years, I think. But I remember that at the age 5, I had a vast collection of videogames. I started playing Zelda Ocarina of Time and all the Super Mario games, and Fifa. Since I haven’t played in a long while, I am quite excited.

I have learned so much from games, but most game related things, such as passing the ball and scoring on Fifa. My vocabulary might have been improved. Last year we played a game at school, I am not quite sure what the name of the game was, but we learned a lot from it. The game was about the conflict between Israel and Palestine. In the game we got to see both Palestine and Israel side of the conflict. The meaning of the game was to solve the conflict.

I am really excited to play civilization IV. I hope that Civilization IV will be both educational and enjoyable to play. I hope we learn a lot of the different military strategies the societies had at the time. I also hope to learn how the different societies behaved and functioned at that time.
